Professor Roger Slee: The Progress of Exclusion through Inclusive Societies

This presentation will address four major themes. First will be the steady attack on the welfare society which has been rejected as an unfashionable and disreputable form of economic policy in favour of the notion of “trickle down” economic benefits.  This will lead into the second theme which concerns the ubiquity of and indifference to exclusion. Third will be an interrogation of the perverse effects and deliberate distortions of inclusive education as it has been misapplied in some jurisdictions. Finally, the presentation will consider how we might reconstruct the welfare state and inclusion.
